A Friend from Egypt

I’ve asked
A friend from Egypt
How it feels to live
Where vast history
Enfolds you.

But don’t we all
Dwell in a place
With a past
That tasks imagining?

The only difference
In my friend’s case --
Access was fast
And the records wore no mask.
