Written after a debate on whether Confederate soldiers should be remembered on Memorial Day.

In those times,
Like all times mixing good and ill,
Our great grandfathers,
Nor saints nor devils,
Took the side they lived in.

They fought, or helped the fighters,
North, South (East, West).

And whether understanding,
Grace was theirs,
Any more than ours,
Shall we judge them now?

Who will judge us
When our time comes?
