On Turning 80

 By John I. Blair

I think 80 is the age
I can no longer make believe
That I’m not old.

Every time I stand is an adventure;
Walking through the house
I get to where I’ve gone and wonder why I went.

The clothing crammed into my closets
Will always stay in style
And never need a mend or patch.

My list of friends grows shorter,
By the month sometimes,
And easy to remember.

On the other hand
It’s no longer hard to keep in mind
That every day’s a gift,

Everyone a priceless treasure
To be cherished,
To be loved.
